Lyle may look like an ordinary dog to some people, but not to the little girl who loves him. She sees all the things that make him special: the way he gets “surprised” by skunks and gets a tomato juice bath then turns pink, eats grass to make himself sick when he has a tummyache, and drinks out of the toilet bowl when he’s thirsty. Faith's favorite part and recites it word for word is when Lyle runs into the glass door chasing squirrels. "Ouch" she says and then laughs. I don't know how many times we read it yesterday but she turned back each page one by one and recited the words on each page. By the time the list of Lyle’s “unique” talents is complete, Faith agrees that he’s a very special dog.
